Iranian scholar highlights political and spiritual significance of Hajj

Former Iranian lawmaker Mohammad Taghi Rahbar emphasized the spiritual and political significance of Hajj, calling it a symbol of Muslim unity. He urged that this year’s pilgrimage be used to support Palestinians in Gaza and condemn oppression. Rahbar stressed that Hajj strengthens Islamic identity and global solidarity.

AhlulBayt News Agency: Former Iranian lawmaker Hojat-ol-Islam Mohammad Taghi Rahbar has described Hajj as a pilgrimage that offers not only deep spiritual rewards but also broad political and social benefits for Muslims worldwide.

Rahbar emphasized that Hajj carries both a spiritual and political dimension, serving as a powerful symbol of unity among Islamic communities. He quoted verse 27 of Surah Hajj, stating, “And proclaim the Hajj to all the people,” highlighting that its benefits extend beyond those who attend.

He noted that pilgrims performing Hajj engage in rituals that reinforce their belief in divine unity and spiritual elevation. Even those who do not participate directly benefit in economic and material ways due to the movement of pilgrims.

Rahbar further elaborated on the political significance of Hajj, stating that it promotes Muslim unity, Islamic awakening, and a return to Islam, the Quran, and the teachings of the Holy Prophet (PBUH). He stressed that Hajj strengthens Islamic identity and fosters solidarity among Muslims.

He also pointed to the opportunity Hajj provides for Muslims to express unity against global injustice and oppression. “Muslims can use Hajj to show their unity and solidarity against tyranny and global arrogance,” he stated.

Rahbar highlighted that Hajj plays a role in governance and leadership within the Muslim world, strengthening ties among Islamic scholars and elites.

He urged that this year’s Hajj should serve as a platform to support oppressed populations, particularly Palestinians in Gaza. “Hajj must carry the spirit of defending the oppressed people of Gaza and exposing the wickedness of the Zionists,” he said.

He further emphasized that the ceremony of disavowal of disbelievers should be used to stand up for the oppressed people of Palestine and condemn injustice.

Rahbar concluded by calling on the global Muslim community to use the Hajj gathering to amplify the voice of the oppressed Palestinian people worldwide.

Hajj is a religious obligation for all Muslims who are physically and financially able to undertake the journey at least once in their lifetime.

The pilgrimage draws millions of Muslims annually to the holy sites in Saudi Arabia, serving as both a profound act of worship and a powerful collective experience that transcends national and cultural boundaries.
